Frank Tovey, born on 8 October 1956, was a British musician and the frontman of the electronic music project Fad Gadget, which emerged in the late 1970s. Tovey is often credited with pioneering the electronic music scene and was one of the first artists to blend punk ethos with synthesizer-driven sounds. His genre primarily encompassed synth-pop, electronic, and post-punk. Notable works include Fad Gadget's debut album, "Fireside Favourites" (1980), and the follow-up, "In the Beginning" (1982), which featured the iconic single "Back to Nature." Tovey's performances were characterized by a theatrical flair and often explored themes of alienation and industrial society. His impact on music is significant; he influenced a generation of electronic artists and was associated with the Mute Records label, home to other notable acts like Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk. Tovey continued to create music under his own name and other projects until his death in April 2023.
